| How to find instructor for Foundation Physical Technique and DB Basics - Eastern MA Hi DB Folks,
Right now I am seeking an instructor to help me primarily with what I refer to as Foundation Technique - how to physically interact with the DB on the very basic level, in ways that will create the least tension and impediments to my growth as a player. I have a number of physical limitations due to previous injury and illness, so I need someone who is not only extremely competent but also patient and attentive to my needs and limitations. Hopefully this instructor will also be able to provide suggestions WRT setup of my instrument(s) that will prove helpful in this regard.
I, myself am very willing to take direction and am coming from a place where I will readily admit that I know absolutely zero about playing DB. I have time to devote to practice and study (the physical limitations are probably more of an obstacle than time). I also have a strong desire to progress musically. My musical tastes lean toward Jazz and more modern musical styles but I also enjoy many forms of Classical music and was not averse to practicing simple etudes many years ago when I took BG lessons.
If any of you have any sugestions for an appropriate instructor or a way to find such an instructor, please let me know. I am not a youngster and refuse to waste time with an instructor who does not have the ability, focus and patience to work with me on the subtle points that are so important, even if this means proceeding slowly in the beginning. My hope is to be able to build a solid foundation while detecting and correcting bad habits before they become ingrained.
I know I have been a bit long winded but I am trying to be extremely clear in hope that you can offer some suggestions that will be a very good match to my needs.
Thanks,
S
