....i played with my upright today...good stuff...i think i am cured...a lil. I just don't want to practice, but then again I am a college kid what doyou expect.

I do from time to time receive the "boys club" mentality. Its funny because, no offense, when I think of your a typical bass player, you picture a fortyish white guy. I am 18 black female. I don't mind it. I find it amusing. When people ask what I play, I say upright and drums. And I am straight by the way. I just find the bass an empowering instrument. plus its fun to tell a guy that you have a g-string or your wood is bigger than theres. I love the bass...always have...always will....and the "boys club" thing goes away once you hear me or see me play. Its like love at first sight. I am the only girl bassist in my school. At the current moment. the only one. And I am a girl....i can't dig ditches

That's funny, I picture doublebass players as black fortyish males! LOL.

That depends on whether I'm thinking about the great Jazz recordings - which are usually black fortyish guys - or concerts that I am actually attending. So in the UK, the vast majority of Jazz DB'ers I see are white, male and usually well over 40!!

If I'm thinking about orchestral concerts, then it is far less stereo-typed - most of the London orchestras have very varied membership. There is usually an equal mix of male/female and some even seem to have more women than men - especially among the strings. They also contain people from many different countries and ethnic backgrounds.

I don't imagine they consider sexual proclivity when choosing members either!

Hey, whattayaknow...I'm a typical bass player!
I actually have about 100 ft. of ditch digging in my immediate future, to run power out to my new workshop. NOT looking forward to it. Maybe I can get the wife to do it.

I hope you have a comfortable couch. And an ugly milkman.
