I Got To Hear/See Edgar Meyer

I went to hear a recital of Edgar Meyer and Emanuel Ax Tuesday night at the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!!! That was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. This guy is unreal! He even played Fritz Kreisler's Tamborin Chinois on the bass! We also got to hear a brand new piece that was played for the first time that night. One other cool thing is that I got front row seats and he was playing directly in front of me about 5 feet away. That was one unforgettable evening!

BTW, after seeing him, I've decided to give up even trying to "play" the bass. Anyone want to buy mine?

I remember seeing him play 3 years ago with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. It was quite mind-boggling not only how good he was, but how easy he made it look.

It cost me all of $5 at Lafayette College. The bonus part was that the hall was really small, so it was pretty intimate.

I remember seeing him play here in Vegas, twice in two days! (This was about two years ago). I remember he played his own concerto and the Bottesini Gran Duo with the UNLV orchestra, and then did a masterclass the very next day for the bass workshop. He played "Froglike", and the bass part to "Don't Feed the Bears"....before the album was even released (as well an an incredible violin solo).

I won't ever forget it, and I intend to see him again any chance I can manage.
