I've been hearing rumors of gross misconduct and infighting among members of the board, and now this. Oy.

That is really sad news. The IAJE events has always been great.
It seems like this is happening more and more to cultural foundations , wich is really bad. Makes you wonder what future there is for us players ?

There's an interesting thread with some links to check out over at allaboutjazz.com; from the back and forth there it sounds like there's a LOT of support for reconstituting an organization along the lines of the old NAJE and letting the rest of the world organize itself locally, rather than trying to recreate an international umbrella organization that was Americentric in the extreme. There's also some talk of allaboutjazz and Jazz Improv (who have collaborated on a conference very similar to IAJE's already) stepping somewhat into the breach.

From reading the article, it seems there is concern from the artists that they don't have enough opportunity at the conferences, from the educational institutions that there is OVER representation from artists and vendors and from vendors that booths are too expensive and they aren't recouping enough orders at the show to justify participation. So it would seem like the first thing to address is DIRECTION - are they an organization that supports jazz or supports jazz education?

Yeah, but no student rates, and will it be the same round of self-congratulation and back slapping as the last group? Here's the new boss, same as the old comes to mind. I just hope these guys get it right. Silva's a pretty decent chap.
