Injuries
I've managed to hyper-extend my right thumb and 6 weeks later still can't hold my (French) bow.
Anyone out there got any ideas or tips on how to get back into playing with me crying like a sissy when I pick up my bow?
I knew I shouldn't have caught that falling bit of staging!

I would definately go to an orthopod, you dont' want to cause further/severe damage. Good Luck.

The frog on the German bow is larger as you hold it differently. You can see expamples of the kung fu grip here:

Thanks for the lesson - I have used a German bow since 1974. I was suggesting that a German bow might put less pressure on your thumb.
Of course your other option is to quit playing for a while.

No worries.
I'd LOVE to quit playing for a while, but being a full-time bass ninja means I can't.
Just bought a German bow to try it out for size, though.
Guess it's Back to the Simandl book for me!
