I did one night with Fred up in Boulder a few years back. He used to come to Art Lande's house for a break in the recovery stuff. Art played drums, Paul McCandless, Fred and me. Art said we just take turns calling tunes, keys, temps and time sigs right on the band stand. Fred called "My funny Valentine"..... straight 8ths. He just flowed on that.
I saw him a couple years back at an Art gig here in town. He didn't look well. At all. He gave me a big kiss on the cheek with a hug......I though that would be the last time.
