Jazz gigs in Amsterdam

Hi all TBers from The Netherlands. I'm touring there for 4 weeks beginning Jan 26 and will be based right in the centre of Amsterdam off Dam Square - lousy gig but somebody has to do it!!!

Need some insider knowledge - where are the nearest gigs and are there any good DB shops in town?

Cheers - Rod.

I remember the cafe alto there. Easy to find with the tenor sax sticking out. Can't remeber the plein but you can see it from the Bulldog. Peace. ASG

That would be the Leidseplein. Alto in fact is situated in a street next to it: the Leidsedwarsstraat. There are many sessions in Amsterdam, but since the BIMhuis is renovating, jazz concerts are a bit rare at this moment.

Cafe Alto is indeed one of the places to check out its located on the 'Leidsedwarsestraat' right off the busiest square: Leidseplein (Leidsesquare). The square were places like Paradiso & Milkyway are also located. You might check with the bimhuis, http://www.bimhuis.nl/ . Might also wanna check out Utrecht (my home town), only 20 minute train ride from A'dam central station. http://www.sjujazz.nl although the site is in dutch youll probably be able to find your way around it enough to contact them.

edit: oops missed vincent's post there.

Actually the Bimhuis site states that they will reopen beginning of february, just in time it seems.
