OK, Back story.
Been a slab player since Junior year of high school. In college (only went for a year) they really wanted me to learn upright also, so they gave me some Chinese P.O.S. to learn on (omg it was garbage) and a did a few gigs for them on it. Nothing major though as I was still new, wasn't receiving much in the way of instruction, and the bass sounded like crap anyways.
Well, after college everything went back to slab but I always wanted to go back and really try getting back into "real" bass.

Finally the chance came around and was finally able to pick up my own DB. Low-end "student" model German bass, not much to look at, but actually has a very nice sound too it. The musical director for the show in fact really loved the sound of it.
Now, I'll admit I still need private lessons as self taught based off what I remember from college can only go so far. And as the time becomes available I do plan to take up lessons. But overall I was shocked with how much I remembered. Although I know I'm sure I'm doing plenty of things that would make a teacher gouge out his eyes if he saw me playing.
The show was a Christmas show based off Frank Sinatra called Christmas, My Way. Needless to say the music was like 95% walking bass lines. (whoever wrote the bass lines for that book needs to be shot BTW. The music at one point went down to the Bb below a 5th string..

)
Overall I was suprised how well I did, and the musical director and show director were extremelly pleased as well. And it felt really good to do a show again on real bass. Well, sorry for the rambling, just felt like expressing my joy.
Oh, pic of me doing the show:
Pic of me in show.
