Does anyone know if back issues are available anywhere? And/also would anyone be interested in starting to scan all of the old issues. I have a few years of the magazine but like many others had lapsed over the past few years. Maybe that is why they couldn't hang in there..........

Dougle Bassist R.I.P.

I have all the issues, including the Strad pre-Double Bassist issues. This is an old thread. Interesting that you post about scanning the issues. Do you mean scan every issue, every page?

I re-read some of the posts and found the lengthy but nice one by Ken Smith. His insight into this bass world of ours is well worth the read on a lot of topics. We chatted by telephone once. I was working on a product marketing study at the time and the subject of trade shows came up. I called him and he graciously shared his knowledge and time. NAMM, bows, basses....you name it. I got him started on Juzek basses once and it was amazing the details he spoke of in marketing and distribution of German factory basses.

Alas, I digress. His blast at Double Bassist was, if even half the facts are true, justified but I still would have continued to subscribe. IMHO, overall they did a good job. Being profitable enough was apparently something they couldn't pull off.

Thanks for responding. Yes, especially since the mag is now officially unavailable. I would love to share the wealth of knowledge I found in those mags with others and find out about the issues I missed. I would be willing to do the work if I had the issues but realize that most guys like myself, cherish the ones we have. I would love every page as I like to have historical records to indicate product ads and things as well. Look at a Bass Player from the late eighties and dig those pix of Randy Jackson. Anyways, if not I understand, but I think it would be a worthy project.

Scott - I suppose we can find some way for you to do this with my issues. First, I have to assemble them all. Maybe I could send a few at a time and when those are returned, send you a few more. One other consideration in scanning them..........most of those issues, if not all, are printed on paper slightly different than 8.5X11. It's actually closer to 8 3/8 (narrower width) X 11 5/8 (longer length). Might make centering and scanning more time consuming.

Well I will send you a PM with my email and we will take it from there. I am willing to put the time in and do the adjustments to make them work. I will assemble the issues I have to let you know which ones I will not need and take it from there. Thanks.
