Make wikipedia better!

Hello! I propose a thread to discuss what sorts of double bass related articles wikipedia might benefit from. There's a heck of a lot of DB knowledge on talkbass, and maybe some people with free time might like to contribute.

What wikipedia DB related topics would you like to see exist that don't?
(See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability to decide whether it meets the "notabilty" criteria.)

Any existing DB related articles that you think need improvement?

I'll start: I worked over the Abraham Prescott article a bit, added references and some links, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Prescott , but it needs tons of work.

How about other notable double bass luthiers, contemporary and historical?

Also, I'd like to see an article on "church basses". They seem like an interesting piece of the history of lutherie, and certainly notable.

Sounds fun, right?

Rob

Have at it, Rob.... more power to ya.

But as a former music major at UW-Eau Claire (Wisconsin)..... if I was attending U of M in the dead of winter, I'd be thinking more about creative ways to keep warm at night.

Just sayin'.....

It's currently 30 F in Minneapolis, so no need for me to keep warm at night.... In fact, I think I'm going to pull my shorts and sandals out of storage!

Besides, my wife doesn't like it when I get too creative. Back on topic:

I've created an article on church basses under the heading "american bass viol" which seemed to me the most academic title. See here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_bass_viol

Anyone have one of these things they'd like to take a picture of for me to use on wikipedia?

gasparo da salo

This thread seems to be collecting dust, but I noticed that the article on Gasparo da Salo

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasparo_da_salo

could be a heck of a lot better. This guy was making DBs in the 1500's....maybe that should at least be mentioned. Anybody know good references for information on da Salo?

I've found a couple examples of his basses:

1. http://www.museosanmarco.it/WAI/eng/melodie.bsm
The "Dragonetti" bass owned by Basilica di San Marco

2. http://www.thomasmartin.co.uk/gaspar...ouble_bass.asp
One for sale on Thomas Martin's site.

Others that people know of?
