Mary Lou

Recently came into possession of a coupla Mary Lou Williams albums:

A Keyboard History
Solo Montreaux 1978

Daaamn, that girl could play a mean piano. No wonder Monk and so many others studied under her.

I LOVE her. So swingin. I have a good friend that is working on a book on her. My favorite is 'Live at the Keystone Korner'. She does this solo piano thing called 'The History of Jazz According to Mary Lou'. Pretty cool.

I'll have to hunt that one down. She really does seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of many different styles, and draws them like a .44 Magnum. Kind of like Jaki Byard in that way.
