Memorial fund for Andrea Taylor (Austin Bassist)

While we normally do not allow calls for charitable donations on the forums due to the high instance of fraud and legal liability, I have decided to make an exception in this case, as I can personally vouch for its legitimacy and I know there are few central Texans on the boards. I received a request to post this last week. This fund is not in any way associated with TalkBass.com. If you feel I'm out of line posting this, let me know. Thanks

Andrea Sue Taylor, 20, was killed along with her father Nelson, in an automobile accident in Austin, Texas, on Thanksgiving Day, 2006. Andrea was a student at Huston-Tillotson University, where she was studying music education and double bass. She attended the University of North Texas Bass Camp 2002 and ´03, the Texas Bass Symposium at UT in 2001 and 2004, and most recently, The Bass Odyssey in May, 2006. Andrea was a member of the Huston-Tillotson Double Bass Ensemble and Jazz Band, and played regularly with the Austin Civic Orchestra.

Andrea would have celebrated her 21st birthday April 16, 2007. In memory of this extraordinary young woman we are going to raise $2100 by her 21st birthday with your help. Donations are being accepted for the Andrea Taylor Motivational Double Bass Award, to help young bass players at McCallum High school in Austin, TX participate in bass events around the country. Please send donations in care of the Austin Chamber Music Center, Attn: Ora Shay, 3814 Medical Parkway, Austin, Texas 78756. Please include a note that your donation is for Andrea Taylor Motivational Double Bass Award.

Sincerely,

Mary Taylor, family and friends

I remember seeing her play when I attended the Texas bass symposium for the first time at UNT almost 6 years ago. I had just started learning the bass a few months prior.

She came out on stage for the afternoon concert that day, this young girl with bright red hair, and just blew my socks off with the quality tone she brought out of her bass. I've been chasing that sound ever since.

Andrea will be missed!
