Mini-disc Microphone

I stumbled upon a free Mini-disc walkman and would like to get a microphone for it.

I'd like to record myself, rehearsals, gigs and live shows.

Any suggestions on what to get? I want to get something quality, but don't want to spend a fortune.

Thanks!

Matt

I used a Sony ECM-MS907 into a minidisc for several years with good results. Not "studio quality" sound but for reference recordings of practice and rehearsals it works very well. I dunno what's out there now but when I bought mine 8 or 9 years ago there wasn't anything I found that came close to this mic for performance vs price.

I use a Sony Hi-MD player with this mic. It sounds incredibly clear and crisp. It's small, but sounds great with bass. Doesn't really pick up the lower register with much power, but it's a great practice tool and it's not too pricey either.

I record through the optical-in using a 1 foot, 1/8" to 1/8" cable with a 1/4" converter, straight into the headphone jack on the mixer. Works very well for the $5 I spent at radioshack. Only MD problem is that Walmart quit selling the disks (and sonicstage doesn't let you rip tracks from the MD to CPU)!

Go to RadioShack and buy one of their cheap (maybe about $30) lavalier microphones. I've recorded a bunch of live bluegrass jams at festivals with this rig and a microphone stand and they sound really good. Mine is an older minidisc and it has a 1/8" jack for a mini-mic built in.

You're not going to try and open a recording studio with this thing are you?
