| Hmmmm....
The director says that Monk had "the name, the look, the sound" and that he invented cool.
Does this mean that I might qualify for a bio film 50 years from now if I get the right name and look? All this time I've been working on sound and music.
I guess that, as more and more of the golden era jazz giants die off, and as the folks that knew them die off, we can expect more revisionism in the history.
When I think Monk, I think first about those glorious, immortal, loopy-twisty, simple-on-the-face-of-it tunes he wrote. Maybe I'm curmudgeonly this morning, but I think that director comes off as a hopeless visualist who probably hears about a quarter-inch of the musical depth in Monk.
