Although I'm guessing the solution for Mac and PC is probably almost identical...
Here's my experiement that displays the problem:
- I do a WAV dump from Band in a Box (BIAB).
- Create a multi-track session in any number of sound editing programs (I have a few on my machine).
- Add the BIAB WAV as a stereo track.
- Playback that track, recording PC speaker output with a mic onto its own stereo track.
- On playbach there is a bit of slap, almost more reverb, from the first note. By the end of a 2 minute track there is almost a 3 second difference, with the mic track being longer.
I've messed around with a few of the latency numbers in the software, etc., but seem to just be guessing.
I'd love any input (pun intended) that anyone has on this.
Gear: PC/XP Pro, 1.6 AMD, plenty of RAM and HD space. Sound card, SoundBlaster Audigy. A few different recording apps, but using Audition 1.5.
PS: Had no problem with this machine and an Ensonique sound card (yes, one of those, from the mid-90's). The Ensonique died and here I am.
