Music Colleges

Does anyone have experiences with Berklee or CalArts? If so please post your opinion. Also if there are any colleges that you would recommend to a jazz(or just innovative) musician please feel free to post that college and your experience with it. Thanks.

I've also posted this in [BG]

if you're looking for innovative, there's a Contemporary Improvisation department here at NEC, which is pretty much whatever you want to make of it. if that sounds interesting, i'd look into it further

Berklee Here. Great School, Great Teachers, Good Scene. Expensive. Very Competitive if you are shooting for the top spots. Very Diverse Student Body. Easy to get accepted, difficult to complete degree program. Great Library. Tons of "innovative" students trying new things. Overall, an amazing experience, but it won't really take you anywhere unless you network like a mofo and impress people, although you will undoubtably learn a boatload.

Also, look into University of North Texas and The New School...both are noteworthy.

Sorry for the terrible syntax, had to type this fast!

Everything Pocketgroove said is true. Good faculty in the bass department, and you'll be exposed to alot in all of the other departments, too.

I think there's kind of a shortcoming there in that you are not a member of any one teacher's studio. It's possible to float from private teacher to private teacher while you are there, and I don't think that's good for performance majors. Look into the film scoring dept or production and engineering departments if you want to be "successful".

Don't attend just to make connections and drop out, or settle for a "certificate" instead of a degree: both are sucker's bets.
