Musician's Websites

A friend with a nice personal website hipped me to a company called "host baby", which has a wizard for creating and managing your site. It's specifically for musician's websites, so it has things like a gig calendar, streaming audio, etc. It's $20/mo which seems like a pretty good deal, but...

Aside from MySpace, are their other companies like this out there? A 2007 goal of mine is to market myself better, so I think this is a good step for me, but like to shop around. The one thing I didn't know about this company is how long they've been and will be around.

Does anyone use a service like this?

Troy

Yeah, Host Baby is an offshoot of CD Baby, another grassroots kind of organization that is really a very hip way to get your stuff out there and heard with relatively little expense. Very cool stuff indeed. The nice part is that most of the money is given back to the artist. They deserve all the support they can get!

I use a separate webhosting thing and then use Myspace.com for my tunes. I know there's a way that i could post tunes on my real page-i just haven't figured out how yet...hasn't quite been that high on my priority list. As far as web hosting goes-i use Yahoo which i'm paying i think $12-14 a month for [i have the Starter pack thingy-no ads] and i bought my domain for 5 years when it was on sale for $2.99 a year. I need to be checking out when i need to renew.

Take it easy.

I use iWeb and .mac. It is $99/yr. You get online storage space, a public folder (ftp site), as many websites as that storage space will allow, and seemless integration with the suite of software (iWed, iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band, etc) that comes on a Mac. Your the master copy of your site is local (on you computer) which is handy for updating.
