| | | | My new DB stand I've gone through several bass stands. I really liked the last one an Ingles SA-22, but sadly the arms broke off and the manufacturer is totally non-responsive for replacements. It's also bulky to carry.
I had heard Rufus Reed had a wheeled plate with an end pin welded to it that he wheels his bass around on. I did a variation of this.
I took a broken desk chair. One with a big base. I took out the piston and everything and was basically left with a steel tube on wheels. I then made a wooden disk and a small wooden cone glued them together, then drilled a hole through the center. I put this on my endpin. I use a Wolf ball on the very end.
Now all I do is lift the bass and stick the end pin into the tube and the bass is standing. The cone makes it easy to center on. The disk rests on top of the tube to protect the bottom of the bass. It's not any higher than the sa-22 was. I can leave the pin at any extension. I do sometimes sit to play. And it has wheels so I can wheel it around.
To play, I just lift it out. The pins already at the extension I need.
Simple solution. If anyone's interested I can take some pictures.

The long wall of my room has a bookcase under a window that is about 28" high; perfect for leaning the upper bout corners on it. Also, in the six months I used the Ingles, the foam rubber padding on the arms wore off. |

I've used that for every bass I've ever had, and it's survived 5 cats (two no longer with us, RIP), and a toddler. It also looks nice, as it appears that the bass is just standing there by itself. |

My bass is so heavy that the foam rubber padding started to wear out right away. I'm replacing it w/ some clear plastic tubing that is about the same size and diameter, but sturdier. So far the arms have not given me any problem w/ breaking off.
It's pretty compact for taking to a gig when I'm short on space or when I'm too nervous just to have the bass laying on the floor. Also it is convenient for those gigs where there is limited space and I have to change very quickly from BG to DB and back.

I used a product called JB Weld ($<5). It's epoxy-based. Mix a dab from each of the two tubes together, goop it on the end of the wayward arm and insert. A spritz of spray paint and we're back in business. Not a problem since. |

Mix the proportions carefully, and make sure you have a clean surface for it to adhere to (sand until it shines), and it should work just fine. |

Maybe i should install a hook in my bass corner ..
I remember when i got my French 19th century bass (nice bass) , i could not sleep for a month becuase i was afraid the bass would tip over

| | | | So far my Ingles stand has held up well (9 months). I do have the arms set so some of the weight of the bass is on the end pin and the arms just stabilize and provide a little support. No cats and the toddlers are all grown, but I do have a large, lazy golden retriever who's made a few swipes with his tail with no effect. |

This is as it goes into the stand. For rolling it in and out of the car I shorten the pin so the cone rests on the bottom of the pin holder. The cone slides up and down, it doesn't seem to rattle. I'll paint the cone black eventually.
Just an idea. Quick to make. Passes the wife test, I can keep the bass in the living room next to the baby grand.

| | | | Yes - it should be no problem with a normal bass.
