New York TB! List Your Gigs Here!

Hey it's been a month since I've settled down in the city.. and I thought it'd be cool if all the New Yorkers on the forum listed their gigs so we could drop by if we ever have a chance to say hello.

I guess I'll start... though it's a fairly modest list.
Cafe Buon Gusto (Brooklyn) - 151 Montague Street - Sunday Brunch (11-4) <-- dreadful hours... i know
(occassionally) Cafe Mozart w/ Victor Lin - 70th and Broadway (8-11) Sundays? PM me for information if you want to come to these

Hope to be able to say hello to you guys soon!

Eeh, what the hell...

I'll be playing with the Idan Santhaus Reedless Big Band on Tuesday, October 16th, 7 - 10 pm.... at The Garage, 99 7th Ave South
I don't think there's a cover, probably just a 1 drink minimum.

I've been lurking on this thread. I've got a friend visiting NY the 12th and 13th and she's asked me where to go. She doesn't have Iridium type money and prefers her jazz fairly down the middle. And, she's willing to go to Brooklyn. She'll be there with someone who lives in the city, but evidently doesn't go to see jazz or know who to ask.

Anyone?

I'm going to see Karrin Allyson at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola on the 13th. Peter Washington on bass. I love Karrin... excellent stuff!
I believe it's 30 dollar cover with 2 drink min?

In Brooklyn there's the Tea Lounge, Barbés, Zebulon, and Bar 4 (that's what comes to mind right now, but I know there's even more). In Manhattan you have the Village Vanguard (which may be a bit out of her price range), The Stone (might be too "experimental"), Smalls, Jimmy's No. 43, The Jazz Standard, Louis 649, Bowery Poetry Club, Downtown Music Gallery...that's all I can think of right now, but I know there's more.

*Oh yeah, in Manhattan there's also the 55 Bar, The Jazz Gallery, Sweet Rhythm, Jules Bistro, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Bar Next Door, and Zinc Bar (good place for Brazilian music).

Have her pick up a copy of "All About Jazz", which has lots of show listings in the back.

Oh, and RIP Tonic (although they're still holding events at Abron's Art Center)

Hey Phil-

How's that gig going? I always love playing with that band, it's fun music.....

BTW, I'm playing tonight (Monday the 8th) at Jules Bistro (www.julesbistro.com) from 8:30-11 with Frank Vignola if anyone is around. Frank is a monster guitar player.

Pete

Definitely the quickest way to figure it all out. FWIW, I'll be playing at Arthur's Tavern on the 11th & 13th from 7-9:30, no cover. I'm in charge on the 11th; on the 13th it's Eri Yamamoto's trio w/ yours truly. Arthur's is across from the Garage (the aforementioned club) on Grove St.

By the way, how you feelin', Phil?

I'm feeling alright, considering the Summer I've had. I'm still recovering though, and the work continues. I take it you checked out my web site, so I just wanted to say thanks!

This Friday night at 8pm I'm playing at St Peter's Episcopal Church (346 W. 20th St @ 8th Ave) with the Flexible Orchestra doing pieces by Monique Buzzarte, Jim Fox, William Hellerman, and Daniel Goode. Great group. I'm one of two basses, the other being Ken Filiano, and there are 10 trombones, two clarinets, piano, and viola. Only $10.

Hey Pete! Well, it's hard to say how the gig is going because the band (and myself) took a Summer long hiatus. I imagine it'll go well though, as Idan is introducing some new pieces in to the set list.

And Reuben, that Flexible Orchestra sounds like some really interesting stuff. I didn't realize there was another St. Peters aside from the "jazz church".

Me neither, Phil!

Also the same program is being repeated (with the same orchestra) on Sunday up in Hudson, NY at the Tin Ballroom, so if there are any TBers up that way... check it out.

This is just a little bit out, but...

Reuben...for whatever reason, the line up you have listed reminds me a bit of the performance of Anthony Braxton's (which, sadly, I missed) composition #19 for 100 Tubas earlier this year. Ooh boy, don't ask.

Well, ten trombones vs 100 tubas is not very close, but I know what you mean.

There's some so-so video clips of that Composition #19 performance online, BTW.

I'll be playing in my living room in Park Slope for free this afternoon while the baby is out. Hell, I might even make you a cappuccino.

I know, it is quite a different instrumentation... I had to let it out because I was even saying to myself, "Huh!?"

I saw Braxton at the Iridium sometime earlier this year or late last year. I had never seen him live before, and my head is still spinning from that performance.
