Nice to see a jazz festival lineup that actually features JAZZ artists. I saw one recently that featured Crystal Gayle as a headliner.

Last year the Friday night headliner was k.d. lang, considering
her a jazz artist was a real strectch for me. She did attract
a considerable following of her own to see her.

The previous year was headlined by Tony Bennett,
no stretch there, and 2001 featured Diana Krall.
So it can be a bit of a mixed bag.

Hotels in Newport get tight in the summer,
get it figured out early if you are
planning to attend the show(s).

Anybody that needs an opinion on the quality of
accomodations, feel free to PM as I live nearby,
and know which motel is across the street from the
waste treatment plant.

WHOA - what an awesome lineup! I skipped the past few years because the lineup didn't seem worth it. Now I'm back to the old dilemna - Saturday, Sunday, or both???

I'm thinking Sunday - Herbie, Wayne, Holland, Payton, Hargrove, AWESOME!

I think i'll be in Newport for the Folk Fest - I just heard Wilco will be there. Sweet!

BTW - last timeI went to Newport Jazz Fest I camped about 30 minutes away and that was a cool/cheap way to stay. There were a few late night jam sessions.

Are the Newport folk and jazz festivals seperate operations, or is the folk festival now defunct. For some reason I was under the impression that the folk festival had either ceased to exist or become the jazz festival.

The Folk Festival is also produced by Festival Productions.
Here is the weblink to the Newport Folk Festival.

They lost their Big Sponsor a few years ago, well known
Vermont sellout Ice Cream Icons. I guess the new
management decided it was not cost effective to support
folk music anymore.

The new sponsor is Apple and Eve. The festival is the week
before the Jazz festival, August 6th or so.
