Hello, all. This is Dwayne Burno. Some may know me. Others, google me. I've lived in NY for 18 years and David Gage has been my exclusive luthier for 19. I'm not looking for this info for myself because I love David and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else (though I have friends making a convincing case that I should someday check out Koltsein on the Island...). I'm looking for a fellow that used to apprentice under Gage by the name of "Terry" (don't know his surname). I was walking to the subway with my bass last week and was stopped by a gentleman that asked the question of me (who does my repairs?" I told him David Gage and he hadn't been in so long that he said oh yeah, down on Reade Street. Gage has been on Reade for over 15 years. He complained about Gage's prices (understandable complaint, sometimes). I mention others that I knew who perform the same services at nearly the same level like Bruno Destrez and "Terry". Terry is a slender, gray haired guy, last living/working on W25th St. I haven't run into him in a few years. I am compiling some names so this guy has other options more suitable for his wallet. If any of you talkbass forum members know guys doing luthier work in NY (and "Terry"too), please send me a note here or at
dwayneburno@hotmail.com.
