NYC Jazz Suggestions ?

Hey all,

I'm going to be in the city either June 28-29 or July 5-6. I'm just wondering if there's anything cool going on jazz-wise that might be harder to notice/not on calendars yet?

I've done some looking and I think I'm going to see either the Charles Lloyd Quartet or Freddie Hubbard (the 28 and 29 respectively). Oddly enough both are 70th birthday celebrations.

Peace and Thanks

NO question about it you should go hear Lloyd and his new band. They are amazing.
I have heard them twice now in San Francisco, ad this weekend in Healdsburg.
Even better than the original quartet with Jarrett, McBee, and DeJohnette.
Not to dis Freddie Hubbard, but he is barley a shadow of what he used to be - and
Lloyd is far greater than he used to be... which was pretty great

Go to allaboutjazz.com and check out their NYC guide, they'll have ALL the listings.

Whitelight,
Have you seen these videos on youtube of Charles Lloyd's quartet:

Ed,

That was my first thought, but when I got on that site I had trouble finding anything helpful. I find the events calendar, but that will only give me what's happening today/tomorrow. How do you do it?

Peace,
Ben

Yes, I will press on your chest so you can exhale.

Just kidding, when you open the main site, look on the left side and start scrolling down. You'll see a SMALL window that is labeled Global Coverage and has icons for Italy, NYC and Detroit.

GENERAL NOTE - anybody out there that lives someplace other than Italy, NYC or Detroit could prolly talk to All About Jazz and put together the guide for your area....

No worries, when they changed the skin and layout on the webpage a few months back, it took me a couple of weeks before I figured out where the guides moved....
