Devastating stuff. When words and music dovetail together like that, all of the day to day life bull**** we stress about seems pretty small. Thanks for posting that.

Bernstein's conducting - some love it, some hate it - has left a profound impact on me. Obviously, I'm in the former group.

One of my favorite tunes.

The Bennett/Evan cut from their first duo pairing kills me too.

One of my main bass teachers was Tom Monohan. He was principal bass of Toronto SO and trainer of many of Canada's full-time players. In the 1950's, he attended Tanglewood where Bernstein was the conductor and Aaron Copland was the composer in residence and the big piece was his Symphony No. 3.

Copland died a few months ofter Bernstein and that week the TSO performed that symphony.

Tom was so emotional about it, he was playing his guts out! You could hear him over the rest of the orchestra even when the brass were at FF! It was quite the treat to watch and hear.
