Pleasant Surprises

I've been staying at the lovely Royal Park Shiodome hotel in Tokyo for the last few days while doing some shows here. One of the cool things I've noticed has been the music piped into the elevators and the lobby; so far, I've heard Brad Mehldau, Bill Evans, and Denny Zeitlin, plus a whole bunch of equally hip ****. I'm catching a bullet train to Nagoya in a few hours, but I dunno; maybe I'll just stay here and hang out in the elevators.

Hotels of the world take note; good musical taste is acceptable.

SOMEBODY'S gotta do it.... anyway, now I can afford to send you a few bucks for the Olivs..... which I can't wait to get back to, BTW. The BassCello is fun for a bit, but I need a real bass soon.

Was down in New Orleans, post Katrina, staying at the Sheraton near the French Quarter. They piped in great sounds all the time (no just Dixieland). Clifford Brown on the lobby speakers...not bad.

I'm in Nagoya now. No more jazz. Really glad that I have an interpreter/escort with me here.

I so appreciate good music in public places. An "italian" resturaunt that my band plays at (also have a good happy hour) plays "Mingus, Ah um" on fairly regular basis and it makes me sooooo happy!

Yo Marcus-

You might run into my boy Eliot who is over there playing with the Paul Winter Consort right now. I am not sure where he is playing but you might can google it.

Sure, I'll post when I head back to Maui tomorrow. Last show today, here in Nagoya, in lieu of one in Hiroshima that now is off the itinerary.

Sounds great, but I'm running outta time for this trip. Milton Nascimento was in Tokyo, but I had shows every night there. Should be coming back this summer, though.

Actually, I spoke too soon when I said there was no jazz muzak in Nagoya.... I was in the train station yesterday, and they were piping in Woody Shaw!
