puerto rico music scene?

does anyone on here have any knowledge/thoughts on the music scene in puerto rico? i'm contemplating moving there this fall and i'm curious if i can find work there. i've been working as a bassist/bass teacher for the last 6 years, so i'm kind of spoiled without a day job. it might be a nice break, though.
thanks,
andy rice

I think it would be a great experience and I'm anxious to hear what other people say. I lived in Miami for a while and knew some Puerto Rician musicians there, but don't remember anything about what they said about PR.

However, I've had similar thoughts about Buenos Aires. Great city, wonderful people, amazing music scene. Jazz is very popular there and they have the jazz clubs that we wish we did. Affordable right now. Might make a nice winter visit for you to see what you think (Maine's winter is there summer).

I spoke to a woman today who's son is a musician/artist in PR. She said that he can introduce you around and get you some contacts but then it's up to you to make it or not. She also said that the locals will tend to give the work to other locals (unless you're a smokin' player that they just want to play with).

Let me know if you're interested and I can pass along your contact info to her and she'll give it to her son.

Also, you should be fluent in spanish.
