R.I.P. Les Paul

Word just came out that Les Paul died.
Every string player that ever used a pickup and an amp is indebted to Les Paul.
Wicked sense of humor, generous, he was gigging to the end at age 94.

. . . and everyone who has ever overdubbed on a recording owes him a debt as well.

. . . for that matter, everyone who has ever enjoyed music which has an overdub. That would be everybody, right?

Vaya con dios, senor.

Wow. A legend passes... I think he's had the biggest effect on modern and pop music more than anyone else... more than the Beatles or Elvis. Rock would not be the same without his guitars and those of Leo Fender.

Ah, to be 50 years ahead of one's time, and then live long enough to see the world catch up to you...

I imagine Les made sure of that I bet that he's in heaven getting ready to do a gig with Art Tatum and Chet Atkins after he's said hello to his loved ones.

I know he made this world a better place.

As a kid, I listened the grooves offa that JATP record.... Les, Illinois Jacquet, Nat Cole, Red Callendar on bass. That record was a big part of why I play jazz now.

Les was very Django-esque on that record. He played his ass off. Pretty cool stuff.

What a legacy to leave behind. To know that you in some way touched every persons life all over the world. Makes me wonder what I have done with the first 37 years of my life. God bless you and thank you Les. You made one heck of a mark.
