Rashied Ali - July 1, 1935 - August 12, 2009

Rashied Ali died yesterday. Love his work on Interstellar Space, and Live At The Village Vanguard Again (among others) and he made a bunch of records on his own.

Great reccomendation. Well worth the $10 on itunes. I always loved his playing. Modern favorites includes: Songlines with Peter Brötzmann and Fred Hopkins - my all time favorite of all three players, Touchin' on 'Trane with William Parker and Charles Gayle and Deals, Ideas & Ideals with Peter Kowald and Assif Tsahar.
The recent duo with Grimes is probably the best Grimes album since his re-emergence.
I saw Rashid do a burning duo set last year with Sonny Fortune.
