Ray Brown Tribute in Los Angeles

This is going on a the Walt Disney Concert Hall on January 28th - it looks interesting, and I'm going to try to go.

My wife doesn't want to go, so with the savings on the second ticket and babysitter I can afford a better seat.

From the WDCH site:

"FEATURED ARTISTS:
Christian McBride, musical director
John Clayton, bass
Benny Green, piano
Russell Malone, guitar
Greg Hutchinson, drums
Ernie Andrews, vocalist
Barbara Morrison, vocalist
Karriem Riggins, drums
Geoff Keezer, piano

ADDITIONAL INFO:
The late, great Ray Brown, who performed with such recording legends as Frank Sinatra, Billy Eckstine, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson and Peggy Lee, was also a great influence on young musicians and mentor to our own Christian McBride. Join Christian with Ray’s former band mates and friends to pay homage to this beloved jazz giant."

I heard about this yesterday while listening to KJAZZ. I am envious. This should be a great concert.

When I saw Ray Brown, he was playing with Benny Green and Russell Malone.

LA has a lot of great jazz events going on all year. I was lucky enough to be in the area in December on a business trip. I caught the Benny Golson Quartet at the Jazz Bakery. Bob Magnusson was the bassist. It was a great evening. I got a chance to chat with Bob between sets. His walking bass lines book was the first jazz book I picked up and it was a treat to meet him.

I was at a Ray Brown birthday celebration where he would've been 75 (or was it 80?) at Yoshis a few years back. Almost the same lineup. Awesome show. Very cool to see McBride playing side by side with JC.
