RIP Bob Berg

Decenber 5: Bob Berg killed instantly in a car accident in East Hampton, NY. Cement truck jackknifed on his side-wife even with seat belt thrown out but ok with some broken bones.

Damn. Painful but fast, with your spouse at your side.

Bob Berg came to my college when I was a freshman. He played a concert with the Big Band (which I wasn't in) and did some rehearsals\jams with the combos, so I got to play with him. I was a clueless kid and I aprreciated the opportunity to play with such an amazing musician. His concert with our Big Band blew me away. I'd seen a lot of local guys, and our jazz director was a hell of an alto player, but this was the first time I realized in person what a big leauger sounded like. It was one of those musical experiences you never forget. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. What a tragic loss.
