RIP Tony Reedus

Man,

Just found out that one of my favorite unheralded jazz drummers Tony Reedus died yesterday. I haven’t found an obit yet but I think he was only 49. He collapsed coming from a gig and pianist Mike LeDonne rushed him to a hospital from what I heard.

For those who don’t know him, he was a Memphis legend. Discovered by Woody Shaw he came to NY with Mulgrew Miller. He is on one of absolute desert island discs Harold Mabern Trio “Grooveyard” with Christian McBride.

I just heard this terrible news tonite from another musician. I've worked with Tony years back and saw him a couple of years ago at a thing we were both playing at NYC's Rose Theater. One the great drummers w/ a relentlessly creative and propulsive groove. A wonderful guy w/ a incisive wit and wry sense of humor. I will miss him.

That's a shocker, and very sad. Know of him from Mulgrew Miller recordings.
