Seeking advice on shipping my bass to hawaii. We are moving, but not shipping any household goods due to the cost. Therefore, we will not have a "container" for shipping.
The bass is too big for usps.
The bass is too big for ups regular delivery, it must be considered "freight".
UPS says they will not ship stringed instruments via ocean, even as a piece of freight.
Air freight companies (such as Hawaiian airlines aircargo) will not accept a piece of freight from an individual person. It must be a business, this is true for all air cargo carriers that ship via regular airlines, since 911.
The airlines we are travelling on, would "consider" it as a piece of checked baggage, but charge outrageous fees to do so, PLUS, make you sign a waiver of liability for any damage that might occur from their baggage handlers. Bummer, because I do not have a flight case, and am not willing to purchase one for one flight!
Anybody have any ideas?
