Sporty cars and DB.

I'll be majoring in jazz bass next year. I'll be bringing both my electric and my upright. Any suggestions for sporty cars in the $30k and under range that could fit a double bass?

I love the Infiniti G35 Coupe, but I'm really doubting my DB would fit in there.

I'd prefer a coupe, but I'll take a sporty sedan if necessary. How about a Lexus IS300?

Thanks my upright friends .

GTi & Nissan 200zx

I've ferried my bass in a VW GTi I used to have, and a 92 Nissan 300zx (2+2). Common between them is the hatchback and fold-down rear seats. Both great cars, but the 300zx is much more expensive to maintain.

Hatchback is the way to go; BMW 3.25t, Audi TT, Porsche 924, any of the Z cars..

You're off to college and looking at a G35?? Sheesh, how about your parents bankrolling my kid's college too?

Seriously, the IS300 has very little trunk and rear-seat space unless it's the wagon model.

If you have that kind of money to throw; I would go with a Volvo Wagon. They're safe, lots of room, and have good power.

I'd probably get the cheapest beater wagon I could find and spend the rest of the dough on a great bass, but that's just me.

Haha my parents aren't made of money, trust me. They just had a lot saved up because I was wanting to go to Princeton, Dartmouth, Amherst, or Yale (all 47 grand a year). So now that I'm gonna get paid 15k a year (after tuition) to stay in state and go to a decent musical school, they've offered to get me a nicer car.

I'll have to look into the GTI. I used to like them a lot.

And my double bass is as nice as I want it... I'm primarily an electric player, so I don't need the holy grail of uprights. Although I do love mine...

Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate it.

Remember when Volvo entered some wagons in a road racing series a couple of years ago, and used it in their ad campaign? That kind of changed my perception of Volvos.

When I bought my Toyota, I got to look at the Scions that were at the dealer and the Scion SC model is the sports version, it's got a hatchback and the seats (including the front seat) fold flat. You could easily fit a double bass and a couple of co-eds in there. Don't spend too much on the car right now b/c at college it's going to get scratched, banged, etc. Make a deal with your parents for a less expensive one now and perhaps another one when you finigh college. You'll definitely be wanting a new car after college.

Congrats on getting the scholarship for college. Sounds like a great deal.

I drive a Saab 9-3 that's 2 years old and the bass fits great. The car is very sporty, looks great and you don't see hundreds of them everyday like you see Toyotas or Nissans.
