Starting a jam sesh, Starbucks?

Hey TB, my area (Orange County, CA) is sorely in need of a weekly jazz jam sesh. The only one we had going on just got postponed until September.

Anywho, I've never tried to organize one of these before. The hardest part would be getting a spot to hold it, since I already know numerous musicians who are itching to jam.

In a nutshell, I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to woo a local manager and get things rolling.

Related question, is Starbucks open to this kind of thing? There's one in my area that is huge and would be perfect for this.

Look in Laguna Beach. They had tons of great players there in the past, and if I'm not mistaken, you could maybe hook up with people like Mike Hamilton (guitarist) or Karen Hammack (keys), Tom Zink (keys), people of that ilk to help you get started. They'd at least tell you whether anything like this would be feasible nowadays. They used to have jazz jams back in the day (80s), at the Sail Loft (which is now something else- Laguna Beach Brewery, perhaps?)...Mike used to play there all the time.

Its too bad that Steamers decided to go to a hip hop jam kind of format on Sunday evenings in the last month or so. I was looking forward to going to their jam sessions. Maybe it will come around again.

It seems there is more going on in South OC with jazz than in other parts of OC.

There is a Wednesday night session in the San Pedro area at present. Not exactly OC, though.
