Summer bass programs

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find some information on good summer programs that go on for hopefully at least a couple weeks. I'm 17, been playing upright for about a year, and BG for 2 1/2 before that. I play in local youth and adult orchestra. I don't really care if it's jazz playing, or orchestral, anything is good for me. I'm out in southern cali but I'm sure I could convince the 'rents to fly me out somewhere if need be.

Care to point me in the right direction?

Check out the ASODB run by Mark Morton at asodb.com. It's great.

I didn't attend, but the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Double Bass Workshop, from what I've gathered, is a good program. It's run by Todd Seeber, a bassist in the Boston Symphony. It precedes the Young Artists Orchestra program by two weeks and section mates who attended had good things to say.

Also, try the Jeff Bradetich Summer Masterclasses at the University of North Texas. It's an intense week of begging, intermediate, and advanced technique. Jeff also teaches over the Summer at the Hammond Ashley Bass Workshop in Seattle.

Hey there,

Yeah +1 to Brandon's post regarding BUTI. The bass workshop's great as is the Orchestra program. Todd does a great job with the workshop, and Eric Larson (Houston Symphony) is a blast to work with during orchestra.

There's a post in the "Orchestra Auditions" board regarding this year's summer festivals; you can get an idea of other festivals to try out from that. You can also do a search for last year's thread.
