First show's tonight and I'm actually really looking forward to it. Actually, not so much looking forward to the first show, because I expect it to be a bit rough, but after that, I'm expecting it to be fun and am happy to have the gig.

Geeze, not sexy.

Debuted the show tonight and it went pretty well, with a few things to work on. These Cabaret guys are pretty loose with the time, which presents some challenges, but my ears will get a good workout!

Just remember to sweep up all the dropped beats at the end of the night, and remember that the "moveable one" concept always applies in cabaret.

No kidding! It will be a good exercise in using my ears. Offends my jazz sensibilities a bit, but I'll look at it as an opportunity to practice listening. I haven't had this good of a listening audience ... well ever .. and I've never played with a more appreciative band.

I have a drummer friend who, when he does gigs like that, says that he was using "beat averaging". He says that his only hope is that, at the end of his life, it all comes out even.

Totally. I did a show once with Nora Dunn of SNL fame and she played Elizabeth Taylor. There was a male singer too. I can't recall his name. Anyway. 2 shows. No rehearsal. 12 page sheet music with crazy ass page turns. No drum charts. Dramatic pauses galore. Time was all over the place. Pretty much a nightmare. Paid well though.
