Travelling by Plane Post August 2006

Does anyone have any info or experience on travelling with their bass in a hard case via airplane since those stupid new restrictions b/c of the gatorade bombs?

You can get a hardshell case (they're gigantic) to put your bass in it's soft case in that's made for plane travel. I think the ISB (might be totally wrong, but you could google it and find it) website has forms saying that the airline has to take it on the plane as some will try to refuse to. And you can also request to watch the guys handle it to make sure nothing happens to it when they load/unload it.

Or you could buy a seat for it and use that seat for your base, however that is expensive and most people hate you for it.

After September 11th, bringing a base (sic?!) on a plane is not gonna happen even if you buy a first class seat for it. The 70's are long gone... but that Rufus Reid pic on his book (of him loading up a bass inside a plane) definitely rocks, huge afro and all.
