I have an idea and I am wondering if anyone would be interested. I wanted to start a "Tune Learning Thread" where someone will pick a few tunes (maybe three) that we commit to memorizing (melody and changes) each week. At the end of the week we report back and tell each other if we learned them or not. This way, we can sort of force ourselves to do the work! Also, I think it would be great 'cause we can help each other out if we're not sure of a chord change or melody line, etc. Almost like a Tune 12 Step Program......
So, if anyone is interested, lemmie know by responding to this thread. Then, I'll start a new thread and pick three tunes to learn for the week, and each week someone else can pick up the ball.
With summer approaching, I think this is a good time to do this because most of us ligthen up in our daytime schedules and get more gigs.
Whadaya think....?
Pete

But, great idea. I'm in.

Pete | Sounds great, I have a question tho... what tools would you all recomend to learn the songs? I only have a cd player and a computer, and would this require purchasing sheet music or tabs?

| | | | I'm in but I'll only be running with one tune a week. I like to go real slow and get as deep inside it as I can when learning a tune for myself which is not always an option when learning them for a gig.
What are we starting with? |

If you have a real book as a reference, that will help.
Okay, maybe we'll start this week and let it run through the weekend and next week because of the holiday. Any thoughts...? |

I've been meaning to learn the head to Bernie's Tune. I've played that tune for years but never got the melody under my fingers.
Another tune I've played many times but never learned the head for is The Nearness of You. |

The chances that I'll have at least one a week that are not on our agreed upon weekly assignement is pretty good and I'm doing transcriptions, etc.
I really want to participate, but I may find myself in the 1 -2 a week slacker crowd at least through the summer.
