Placement in the ensemble program is of course determined by audition, but because of the relatively high number of horn players and drummers, there is a great likelihood that everyone coming in will have plenty of chances to play on a regular basis. Anyone who may be interested in more details, feel free to post or contact me via email or PM.

Update: a few new players have auditioned, and will likely come into the program. There is still room for several undergraduate DB players. The school is now authorized to waive the out of state tuition fee, making in-state and out of state the same. |

The Jazz Dept. has several assistanships available for graduate students which cover a full ride and a stipend. For undergraduates, there are several "full ride" scholarships available. I couldn't tell you about the housing and cafeteria component.
On a serious note, both the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Jazz Performance are solid programs, but anyone applying needs to keep in mind that they are full degree programs, meaning that any student on these degree tracks needs to take (and pass) all of the peripheral classes associated with the degree track, which includes theory, music history, etc. as well as core classes outside of the school of music. Anyone looking to hole up and shed for ____ years without having to do much else would be in for a nasty surprise. |

Grad students are usually already professional-level players, which is great, but since they are only here for two years, we'd also like to get some good incoming freshman bassists who can be a part of the program for a longer period of time. |

Your school is one of em that i still need to visit before thinking much further. Am interested though if there's any room in the future.

The jazz program is lobbying to become a combo-based program (i.e. - using small combos as the "Major ensemble" for jazz majors). It hasn't happened yet, but looks likely in the near future. In light of this, more bassists of all levels will be needed.
Apologies for the semi-"spam" nature of this post, but since Paul gave permission for it, and since I'm not really "selling" anything, I figure it's okay. If anyone feels otherwise, feel free to PM. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
