walking with a bass

No, not a walking bass line, but actually walking down the road.

I've just moved and i'm now within walking distance (3 miles, or 5km for those metricly inclined) from my luthier.

I'm tempted to put my wheel on (an 8 inch pneumatic) and roll my bass over to my luthier for the next bit of work I'm going to have done.

London pavements (sidewalks) aren't known for their smoothness, however my route is reasonably even.

my bass is a 15 ish year old cheap carved romanian tank.

Should I risk walking it, or would i be best advised to go by bus and risk the damage caused by fellow passengers. (last time i did this i got my bridge knocked down and have two shallow gouges to my top as a reminder)

Thanks for any advice or tips.

Tom

If you're going to take the bus might as well just walk it. There is the same risk of damage on the bus or walking. The only thing you will find is it is quite a bit more tiring walking 3 miles with a bass than without. But I have definately walked around that amount before with my bass when I lived in NYC.

Thanks all.
Ha ha I'd seen that picture of the rollerblading bassist before.
It doesn't take much imagination to see that ending in tears.

I guess all I didn't want to hear were crys of "no, no, you'll shake your bass to bits rolling it that far".

London busses are bad enough without a bass, and as i said i had suffered before. So that's good, Walking it shall be!
