WHAT AIRLINE COMPANIES are good to fly with the bass

Does anybody know airline companies that don't charge an arm and a leg to fly with the trunk?

I need to get from New York to Dayton/Cincinnati in the 3rd week of June and am trying to figure out the most cost effective way of doing so.

What's tricky is that I live in NYC, have to play in Ohio in June, then fly from there to Aspen and back to NYC. The flights from Ohio and back to NY are covered, but I have to come out of pocket to get from NY to OH. I was thinking about renting a trunk from Gage, taking an Amtrak to Cincy, then using that to fly. I've flown domestically with a hard shell case and been charged $200 for "over-sized baggage" one way before! I'd rather take the 18 hour ride on the train for 86.

Any light to be shed on this would be much appreciated.
