| | | | Who's gigging in NYC early June? Blowin' outta this little fishing village for a few days and gonna be in NY late on June 4th through the evening of the 10th. Gotta see a guy about a rigging gig Tuesday morning but mostly I'm on vacation with a bass and a duffle bag hangin' out in the East Village. If you're playing or know of something I should check out lemme know. Particularly interested in hearing Eddie Gomez again if he's playing anywhere.
thanks.

june listings, though. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/newyork/index.php

and http://www.nyjazzreport.com/
Hit me back right before you go I might be able to point you to some interesting things. The heavies, like Gomez are always cool, but the real story in new york is the number of guys that out-of towners wouldn't know, but who play their asses off. Plus, they can be a little easier on the wallet. A couple of days here and you'll appreciate that.

phil | Gosh, I feel like such a hick and I ain't even done left home yet!
Seriously though thanks for the links. I almost didn't ask about Eddie but hearing him with Bill Evans when I was a kid and getting to hang out with him for an afternoon when I was 13 is what turned my ear to jazz. Other than that I am much more inclined to letting NY surprise me the way it always does.

The only reason I bring it up is cause of the 70s Bill Evans thang, the gig is gonna be me, Jon Raney and Eliot Zigmund...

Hanging on the sidewalk is fine. I've done some damned valuable listening outside venues I was too young or too broke to get into. There's a certain intensity and focus in it.

I call a logging town, myself. Maybe you have to live/work here to get it.

| | | | ED,
Tried to talk my way in to the Cooper-Hewitt but no go. From the street you guys sounded great the times the wind died down enough for me to hear. It was interesting though that despite not being able to hear notes a lot of the time I could really hear the groove and that was well worth the price of admission...And damned if I was gonna walk 85 blocks up and 85 blocks back and not get something for it.
Heard Marco Panascia later that night. Whatta serious MF he is. You gave me some things to think about Marco....
Got real bad shin splints from walking several hundred blocks (thank god fer canadian over-the-counter codeine) but other than that having a swell time.
Time to go see what I can find tonight now....
Thanks fellas.
