You guys ever use an alias on a session?

I did a session this summer that i wasn't particularly proud to be a part of.... but it paid really well. (I'm assuming most of you have been there..) I asked for an alias to be used in the album credits, however i just got the CD and there it is, the name that appears on my birth certificate. haha.

Anyone ever do something like this? (if someone coughs up a funny story about the session i'll tell mine)

Many times I have found it crucial to use an alias on sessions and on gigs.

I think it's best never to let her have my real name or phone number. Less hassle with the wife that way.

I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

I usually play really embarrasing gigs and sessions under the psudonym "Alex Spradling". It's just cleaner that way for me.

Well, over time I've gone by various psudonyms, such as Chuck Rainey, Willie Weeks, or my favorite nick name, James Jamerson, which is actually an alias on top of an alias, seeing as how I normally recorded all of my Jamerson sessions under the name of Carol Kaye.

In that case you gotta explain your beef with scales and modes to me.

I haven't used it yet, but as a white guy living as a bassist in Hawaii, I've got one at the ready; "Major Haole".

Loved this little exchange in the thread. Made me laugh out loud.

A friend who is a well-known touring musician often registers in hotels using a name other than his own in order to safeguard his privacy.

When someone calls the hotel, they won't get through unless they know the name he's registered under.

The hotel employees don't divulge the fact that he's staying there because his name isn't ever input in the hotel's computer system (reservations are made under the name of his label, manager, etc.).

Although he's not a drummer, the last time he was in town, he told me to call his hotel and ask for "Perry Diddle."

You have GOT to use that! I'd steel it, but it wouldn't work in Seattle.

Scales and Modes were devised largely by Bach, who was a well-known alcoholic, and besides, I actually played MOST if not ALL of Bach's recorded Basslines. Yet not a penny of mailbox money. I"m calling Bach's agent.

I have used a number of one shot pseudonyms in the past to mess with MCs who know me at local open mics.
