It's impressive. But it's just performance by rote- they play this stuff exactly the same way every time. Memorization.

And I know a lot of adults who can't even remember the tune. To have the discipline to do what these kids do is amazing.

What do ya know, a 9 year old without a REALBOOK! How do ya explain that? Where's Damon S? I need an explanation. Now that's not "ear training on the bandstand". Thanks Don. I've been waiting for this.

i love how this makes people so uncomfortable that they say things like "its just memorization." c'mon, these kids are amazing. i actually enjoy having these kids show me up because it takes off some of the stress i feel to become a perfect player. these kids did in a couple of years what i havent done in 20. so i just do what i do and enjoy the music.

This kid bassist has good feel and serious chops. We're born with a sense of playfulness and curiousity. At some point we can lose some of that. Practice sessions are interrupted by thoughts of responsibilities and parenting issues or whatever. These kids are going for it and I applaud them.
Now, let's see this kid do it on a 'real' bass.

I forget who said it, (I think it was one of my teachers), but when they saw something like this they said "Hey, that's great kid, now go get your heart broken a few times and you'll be ready to play something."
