A $1,000 power cable?!
Should have been in this category to begin with... Epic.
Where's the pic of the power cable destroyed by a dude's cat?
Inside this expensive (he paid $300 for it) cable was: a regular cable, some tape, wire loom, fancy outer covering, and good quality connectors.
Maybe $20 worth of materials.
A couple of guys I knew worked in tech support at Apple about 15 years ago. Their favorite Apple product to discuss with customers were the white power cables. They'd always put the accent on "white power" just to mess with peoples' heads.
... but I can't imagine what the intended application is for these.
Seriously, does anyone actually know what they are for?
Some very funny comments in the thread and some great creative reviews on the Amazon site, but the fact remains, these are real cables and leads and more than one company makes them and they're still in business, so quite a few people must be using them, and paying for them!
I see one of them is silver core rather than copper, so that adds evidence they may be specially engineered for some specific application. That, in turn, suggests that it isn't simply for taking power from a wall socket to an amp. I'm guessing they may be for a "filtered" clean power supply for high end medical/research type equipment, maybe?
I'd buy one to find out, but it's got the wrong plug for UK :ninja:
A search for "shunyata research anaconda alpha" reveals that these are power cables intended for audio systems of all kinds. They also make one with a European connection (but I don't see a listing for a UK version).
The claims on some of these sites seem outlandish, making the music produced on the overall system to be significantly improved. I dunno about that. Here's just one link to read a review:
You can one of these adaptors from Amazon for £4.70 that will allow you to use your $1000 dollar cable in the UK
But since that's probably too cheap, I have a spare one that I can sell you for £750. I have taken it carefully from it's packaging and treated it with a secret process to align the atomic structure of the internal conductors in such a way that the Earth's magnetic field actually augments the power transmission properties and ensured that the plastic casing has the right chi...
PM me if you want it, once it's gone it's gone :smug:
lol... Thanks Jools, that's very generous but it's an offer I'll have to refuse, I'm afraid, what with it being out of its original packaging!
So, it's seriously for audio systems? Wow... just wow!
Sadly, my own audio systems are pretty shot these days, so I'm unlikely to benefit much from this fabulous technology in any case... :hmm:
You know, just in case you forgot which country you came from and which country you were currently in...:)
If you think that's expensive, pick up a copy of The Absolute Sound Buyer's Guide sometime to check out their recommendations for $2,000 interconnects and $10,000 speaker cables.
