$25 Bass

I got a call in the week from my guitarist telling me he had something for me... He was in a charity shop, and found an 82 Ibanez Blazer Fretless for £12 ($25)!!!!!!

He brought it to the gig last night. It was short a string, but I sorted that before sound check, and played the first set on it! (it was a quiet night, as we were filling in for another band at short notice, so a good chance to experiment) It sure was fun playing Van Halen and AC/DC on fretless - I think I did OK intonation wise apart from the solo in Woman From Tokyo which was a bit painfull in places!

The Blazer sounded great, and played pretty good. Definatly a keeper (I just ordered a set of halfwounds for it - cost more than the bass!). I've got a few gigs later in the year which it should be good for.

Perhaps the best bit was the price tag still on the bass dangling from the headstock! The singer cracked up mid song when he spotted it. It's definatly staying.

u know the rule no pics no $25 fretless ibby. I belive this is more suited for the basses forum rather than in humor/gig stories.

Fair call - Pic's provided. Price tag included.

I though about posting in Basses, but thought the story part of it was more interesting than the bass itself.

Totally off topic but I saw Croox little cactus dude and it reminded me of how much I hated those dudes on final fantasy. Stupid needles spell.

Your guitarist friend is like my wife. She always rounds down in almost every situation...

12.99 becomes 12.00

I look at it and see 13.00. But hey, that is a killer deal!

But just think, for the same money, you could have had this piece of vintage gear.

Those old Ibanez rule. Likely that has a DiMArzio P pup in it.
Also, probably MIJ when they had the Fender contract based on what
I have read here.

Sweet find. They go for 250 - 250 dollars here depending on condition. Excellent find.

Oh wow, I used to have one of those (fretted) and gave it away to a guitarist friend. I'll be kicking myself for eternity over that one.

Dude, I'll take any bass $25. Congratulations man, it's not every day you find a bass in that type of condition for such a low price.

Nice! If that had a white pickguard, it would very well be identical the first bass I ever had to play. It was lent to me by a man in my church.

I have a $25 bass as well, a Hondo P-bass (also fretless, although it wasn't that way from the factory) that I bought off a girl who lived down the hall from me my Freshman year of college. That's $25 I'll never regret spending; in fact, I played my Hondo this morning!

Hurrah fer the Hondo!! /derail
Seriously, nice man. On top of that, I guess you probably owe that guitar player like a week, or maybe a couple gigs, with no 'guitard' jokes. Ah well, he earned it. Cool find, good of him to be a pal.
