2009: A year for gear

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking back at 2009, I began thinking about everything I have added to my collection.
I have only been playing for about a year and a half at this point. I have however kept 5 out of 6 basses that I have bought this year, I sold my starter Ibanez GSR 200.
I currently have:

-Purple Fender/Warmoth Jazz
-White SX PJ
-3T Sunburst SX Jazz
-Wine Red MIK Squier P bass
-Black Ibanez 105ex (5 string)

I have gathered a lot of toys in the past year, and was wondering how everyone here on TB did in 2009.

Basses, amps, pedals, stories, steals and deals....you name it.

lets here 'em. pics are always appreciated. (maybe ill add mine later)

Happy Holidays and good luck to everyone in 2010.
Keep low.

I've only bought two things this year - a 9v battery and a new set of DR Lo-Riders...

This year I bought:

Fender MIM FSR Strat
Steinberger WAV 4
Set of Sabian B8 cymbals
Peavey Cirrus bolt on
ESP B55 to backup the Cirrus
Sunn Concert Lead
Some old Peavey PA head

And before 2009 is over, I might have an order placed with LDS for a custom cabinet.

Compared to years past, I really slowed down this year.

a year is a long time and a LOT happened this year (in and out of my bass life).

bought my first home and switched jobs...

joined up with a third musical project while the other two slowed down a bit, recorded a bunch, didn't really do much gigging, but there were a few...

sold and traded a BUNCH of basses and ended up with these new in the year
Abe Rivera 4
Carl Thompson 4 No Frills
Pavel Hadara Deluxe 5
Pete Hilton 4

the only one that I had before the year started and still do is my beloved Mørch Curl 6. let go of a few basses that I had for a while including my Mørch 5 fretless singlecut and 6 string twin. Also let go of my last Acacia and Fodera. Had an MTD that I wasn't wild about for about a month and sold a few others that I picked up to check out with the intention of selling or trading. There were a bunch of others that slip the mind at the moment and I also revamped some pedal/studio gear to more of what I've been doing lately.

Whew...what a year. Looking forward to not really changing much in the way of basses and gear for 2010 since I feel like I've finally found what I've been looking for.

2008 was a crazy year with 4 bass purchases, one cab purchase and two basses sold (along with an electric guitar purchase and a guitar tube combo amp).
2009 however was the year for pedals:

-Fulltone Bassdrive Mosfet
-Subdecay Flying Tomato
-local made power supply for up to 8 effects
-Tech 21 Bass VT
-Korg Pitchblack
-MXR M288 (which is still in the mail, hope it clears customs before '10).

edit: got a PT2 this afternoon.

Got a GK MB2 500 and a GK NEO 210; also picked up a Ibby SR405 (first real five stringer) and put down payment on a Dingwall Combustion... plus strings, cables, transcription books, a TASCAM Bass Trainer... Next year hope to get the Dingwall shipped and in my hands by early January, and perhaps buy a tuner pedal. I've not had a chance to really experiment with other pedals yet, so don't know if any additonal pedals are in my future or not...

Pretty slow year for me, just a Zoom H2.
March (tax money) should be time for a new (or new to me) 4003.

Most of my big ticket bass gear purchases were in 2008. My expenditures in 2009 were more modest. I picked up: (1) MIM P-Bass, (2) Smith bass, and (3) I re-inherited my old Cort headless bass from my son. Total cash outlay of $400. And I grabbed another Behringer combo amp and some material to build another cabinet for it, totaling about $200. Also, I was given a vintage (i.e., OLD) Peavey 12-channel powered mixer board, so I bought a pair of 1X15+horn+tweeters cabinets to go with it. Works good for rehearsals or maybe smaller gigs, but it is huge. Total $250. I think I did okay with all that.

Then there was the lighting system. I went a little overboard there, I think. 15 feet of portable truss and stands, a dozen par light fixtures, a couple dimmer packs, a lighting controller board, 2 gobo scanners, a sky/scanning laser, a couple fog machines, an effects fixture controller, a ****load of cabling. Plus enough material to build cases for all the stuff . . . $1,500+ total. Used once, and then the band collapsed.

This coming year, I'll do better. I swear!!!
