40 year olds should know better???

Playing at a wedding reception for the singers cousin- just enough money to cover fuel and as much as we could drink from the bar - sounds like a decent gig for the bridal party as we're all 40+ and don't/can't drink that much anymore.

the result,

300 bar bill on vodka & red bull,
me and the guitar player spent another 100 each
drummer called three days later from hospital asking if anyone knew how he got concussion and not remembering anything from the half way break.
I'm now a single man again after 6 years,
drummer also now single after 10 years,

the moral:

if it sounds too good to be true it is

The hangover gets worse,

during the following day-Sunday- the concussed drummer did 1300 worth of damage to his car

I was in full time country bands when I was in my early 20's that didn't leave that much wreckage.

The weddings are bad enough but thank god almighty that it wasn't a funeral - that can last a week.

Reminds me of the free gig I did for a (sort-of) friend to help him out reading some big-band charts. Didn't even want to do it, but he guilted me into it.

After, some f*&%head had backed into my car and left a huge dent. Of course, nobody saw anything.

$1500 to fix.

Of course all I get from said "friend" is "Wow man, that sucks."

No more gigs with that guy, I'll tell ya that much....

Just to clear the air - the marriage break ups were there- this "event" wasn't typical of either of our behaviour but maybe as a result of our respective partners. We needed to blow off some steam but neither of us knew the others reason for it until the following days.

my god man no irishman would waste that amount of beer!!!!!!!!!

Don't think so- it's the first time in ten years that he's not been told after 4 drinks "time to go home now honey". To be honest this is the first time i've seen him drunk in 12 years, but to be fair he was very , very , very , very drunk.
While reading the responses I called a barman friend and he reckons we drank a bottle of vodka each going by the money we spent.
Is there a phrase for anti-serendipity?- Drummer , bass player and guitar player all having arguments with their wifes on the same night?

Believe it or not the singer,Bride & Groom and the crowd thought it was a great gig.

Hmmm. Noone goes from not drinking to drinking way too much and make an ... out of themselves.

It took me several years to realize I had a problem until one New Year's Eve I drink so much that I was drunk for 3 days straight after that. I was told I beat two people at shots in a row. And also fired a party popper at someone's face, who could have called the cops and sued me if she had not been a good friend and been uninjured by the stupid antic.

After that, not a drink for 6 years, until I decided I was mature and adult enough to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine once in a while.

So one beer before the gig, to cool down and soak in the atmosphere, sometimes one after, and that's it.

Your friend IS an alcoholic. Time for an intervention?
