Sheesh, just got back from trying to buy a Mesa road ready cab and the SOB sold it before I got there.

I told him I needed at least 45-hour to get there, and asked if that was ok. "Sure, no problem". Cash machine won't dispense $$ so I have to go into the bank and then drive all the way across town. I end up about 10 minutes late (my fault, but given banking and drive time I figured I was pretty close). Anywhoo, pull up to find out that he just sold it. He said "I gave you 45 minutes".

All I ask is that people are honest - if you say 45 - hour is fine, don't change your mind just because you can get the money 10 minutes faster. Wasted a good hour+ of my day.

end of rant. Thx for listening.

I pulled a stunt like that on a car sale once... The problem, from a seller's POV, is that you never know if a guy is going to flake out or not. Now, were this seller a buddy of yours, I can see why you'd be ticked... But if he's some stranger, you can't really blame him for making the sale, can you?

Don't worry about it - there is no such thing as a one time only good deal - There'll be another cab out there for ya.... and then you can sell it!

I can blame him. A deal is a deal. If you are going to flake, you call. Otherwise you are lying scum.

Not that I have strong feelings either way.

That stinks, but . . .

no sales person in their right mind is going to turn down a sell b/c someone "said" they were coming to buy it.

Yeah, but the seller could easily have told the other buyer "look I have a guy 'supposedly' gonna be here in 45 minutes, if he doesnt show, its all yours" or something to that effect.

Maybe he did, he was 10 minutes late(not his fault of course but how was the salesman to know?)

Back when I worked in retail it was store policy of first come first serve, we could hold things for someone for a reason like that but if someone came along with cash in hand ready to purchase had to give it to him. Now if you put a portion of the money down then we would hold it for you till you came back no matter how long.

No worries man, other cabs in the sea!

I understand what it's like to sell gear, and I understand the danger in waiting, but I would never deal this way - double booking just isn't cool unless you specify first come first serve to everyone you talk to.

Had I known, I would have dropped everything and gotten there asap. Instead he gave no indication that time was of the essence. As a matter of fact, he just said he needed to sell it before the end of the week.

Oh well, maybe a Berg will be better anyway...

If you've ever sold stuff on craigslist you know about 80% of people seem to no show... 1 minute late is a not show.. I've been burned more than once waiting for people to " run to the atm" that never come back or ask to hold it a day...

Money Talks...

My word is always good, as either a buyer or a seller OMG EVEN ON A CRAIGSLIST DEAL. I expect others to have some ethics also. If I'm a buyer running late, I call the seller. If I'm the seller and another offer comes in, I call the other buyer.

I guess it's a new world, and since people now deal with a huge internet buying public rather than a small community, they don't feel the need for their word to mean anything. It's a lot like flaming on an internet forum. I'm a bit old school, I try to do right by the "customer", be they buyer or seller. Silly me.

sorry dude...i'd have assumed that if you were not there on time and had not called that the second guy gets it......if i had a nickle for every guy that said they were coming and didn't,i wouldn't need to sell anything

Yeah, you also could have called to let the seller know you were a little bit behind.

You guys are right - I should have called. Would have if I'd had any notion that he was under a tight timeline. "I need about 45 - hour" means I need a bit of time. I didn't say I'll be there at 12:47.

At any rate, live and learn - thanks for letting me gripe.
