From the liner notes to the 2005 "Marshall Tucker Band Anthology: The First 30 Years" CD:

"Tommy [Caldwell], being the bass player, was more of a conservative type, so we let him take care of the money."
--Doug Gray (the band's singer)

Well, I am a bass player and a conservative, but I know plenty who aren't.

Yeah, I'm SUUUPER tight with my money. I can see how bassists can get shoehorned into being the rational one in the group. :P

I'm definitely the "rational" one in my band, but only because everyone else is batpoop insane.

well... i'm very fiscally conservative, mainly cuz i don't have much money (i'm barely a thousandare). that said, i'm actually a moderately liberal quaker. i don't understand the corralation of conservatism to bass playing...

In the original quote, I don't think he meant "conservative" as in "politically conservative", but rather "cautious", "rational", "stable", etc., etc.
My father was politically quite liberal, but he was conservative in the sense that he wouldn't go to the supermarket on a Saturday afternoon without first making sure to shave... that kind of thing.

With all the shenanigans going on in the banking and investment world, letting a bass player handle your money might not be a bad thing. How much worse could Sid Vicious have screwed it up?

Well, that does fit me. I have always have handled the business side of all my bands, done all the bookings, handle the money and the bills and accounting, and organize everything. Every band I have ever had has made money and people know it is because I run it as a business.

He wasn't a bass player.

That said, playing a certain instrument doesn't determine your personality or maturity.

I'm brilliant with my money, I only spend what I actually have. =P Never get a credit card or a loan and you're almost safe. =P
