i find myself in the same situations a lot.

people say i am such a great bassist because i play with fingers, pick, and slap. and use all three in almost every song.

i simply reply that my method of playing doesn't determine how well i play. i tell them that i do what needs to be done. i don't try to be flashy. sure i do some fills, but i don't try to steal the song.

but then again, it is always nice to hear compliments.

easily impressed

most non-bassist people think that playing higher ground (rhcp version) is amazing. that is one of the simplest slap lines i've found. kids at my school have challenged me multiple times at "bass-offs" i dont really care and i bring my bass every day anywho. i really dont think it is a big deal.

on the other hand, i've never seen someone, in my 3.5 years of playing that can slap nearly as quickly as i can that is not a professional. non-bassist and even most bassists are easily impressed by a fairly simple slap line played quickly.

the problem is that slap is difficult and too aggressive or sharp to incorporate into many musical styles.

i love to lay down a cool groove now and then, but slap is where i've found my happieness.

According to them, Jamerson was nothing.
